About the city – Shumen is a city in northeast Bulgaria. It is the tenth largest city in the country and is administrative center of municipality Shumen and region Shumen. It is situated on a crossroad – near the city the main roads Sofia – Varna, Ruse – Burgas, Silistra – Yambol are crossing.
In Shumen is located the memorial ‘Founders of the Bulgarian country’ that is representing the most important moments of Bulgarian history. At the plateau is situated the middle ages fortress of Shumen, which is partly restored during the 20th century. Just 15 km from Shumen is situated The Madara horseman and also near the city Pliska and Preslav are situated, 2 of the old Bulgarian capitals.
